Light and Shadows of graffiti

Graffiti can be both positive and negative, depending on how and where it is used.

On many walls of ancient Pompeii two thousand year old graffiti have been well preserved by the blanket of ash that covered it after the eruption of Vesuvius.

Graffiti is used to express freedom, rebellion and art.

For example, one of the most important artists of the 20th century, Keith Haring, uses graffiti as a form of art.

On the other hand, graffiti is negative when it hurts the enviroment or contributes to damaging of the ozone layer.

On the positive side, graffiti is a way to express one’s thoughts, and make social comments.

However, on the negative side it can be argued that spray cans damage our enviroment, releasing harmful CFCs into the atmosphere.

Graffiti is  certainly vandalism when it appears on public transport.

Finally, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, as long as you respect the opinions of others and do not damage the ozone or private property and ancient buildings.
